Whether you live in a large house or in a very small apartment, it is always nice to be organized. Learn about storage all the way from the basement to the attic of your house.
The attic is a safer area to store things you do not want exposed to moisture. On the other hand, the attic is not a great place to put items that should not be exposed to extreme temperatures. Use plastic tubs rather than cardboard boxes or plastic bags because the mice cannot get into the plastic tub.
When you use the basement for storage, you run the risk of things being exposed to moisture. Keep cabinets and things up off the floor by placing them on treated wood pallets.
In the basement or in the attic, you can use the open joists for storage of long items. Add hooks to the beams and you can hang light weight things above your head or over your car in the garage.
When you have little nuts, bolts, screws or nails in small drawers, tape or glue one of the items from the drawer to the outside of the drawer for a visual reminder of what is inside.
In the bedroom, use the space under the bed for storage of seasonal clothing. If you need to purchase storage for folded clothes, fold the clothes first and then stack them to see the size storage container you will need.
You can save linen closet space by rolling your towels and placing them in a basket to set on the floor of the bathroom. To keep your kitchen plastic containers together, number the matching lid and container.
